Everything You Need to Know About the Disney Lorcana Card Game

A blend of Disney magic and strategic TCG action, the Disney Lorcana trading card game brings iconic characters to life with stunning visuals and intuitive gameplay. What is the Disney Lorcana Card Game?

At its core, the Disney Lorcana card game is a competitive TCG, where players become illumineers, wielding magical ink to summon Disney characters as glimmers in the wonderful world of Lorcana. Unlike other TCGs, which are usually combat-focused, Disney Lorcana’s goal is to collect 20 missing pieces of Lore before your opponent.

Players build decks with a mix of characters from iconic Disney films, from The Little Mermaid to Aladdin and even Tinkerbell. With a limit of two ink colours, you can mix and match 60 cards with all kinds of characters, action, items and location cards.  Track your Lore through the official Disney Lorcana app or dice. Blending deck-building with strategy, the Disney Lorcana TCG offers enough depth for competitive play while simultaneously being accessible for new players.

Getting Started: Your Lorcana Essentials

Starter Decks

When entering the magical world of Lorcana, you can either build your own deck or use a pre-built starter deck:

Each set includes 60 cards, tokens, a rulebook, and a booster pack. Pre-built and colour-coded to a pair of ink types, starter decks are the easiest way to begin.

Booster Packs

Illumineers who’ve gotten the hang of wielding the magical ink and making full use of glimmers can look towards booster packs next:

Each pack contains 12 randomized cards to expand your deck and hunt for powerful or rare glimmers. These are great for customizing decks or completing a collection.

How-To Play

Card Types

There are four types of cards in Disney Lorcana:

  • Characters: Quests to earn Lore or challenge opposing glimmers.

  • Items: Offers ongoing effects or bonuses until banished.

  • Action: Single-use cards for immediate effects like drawing cards or banishing opponents.

  • Location: Provide passive bonuses or extra Lore when characters are played to them or interact with them. 

Game Setup

Setting off on your first journey? Grab your starter deck or create your dream team with 60 cards and get started on creating your Lore:

  1. Select 60 cards and one or two ink colours

  2. Shuffle your deck and place it to the side

  3. Decide who goes first (roll a dice, rock-paper-scissors, etc.)

  4. Each player draws seven cards from their respective decks.

  5. Players start with zero Lore and aim to reach 20 first.

Turn Structure

  1. Draw phase: Add ink to your cards and place them face down for the game, turning them into ink to play other cards.

  2. Ink phase: You can play one card from your hand face-down into your inkwell (if it has the ink symbol). These become your resources. To play other cards, exert (turn sideways) ink cards equal to the cost of the card. Exerted ink refreshes at the start of your next turn.

  3. Main phase: Start with “Ready”, “Set,” “Draw”, then you choose whether to turn cards into ink, play cards, challenge opponents, activate abilities, and quest for Lore.

  4. End phase: Resolve effects and pass the turn until one player reaches 20 Lore.

Winning the Game

Achieving 20 Lore is through questing with characters; challenging opponents is not required to win, but it is strategic.
